@LATechSB Hosts Southeastern Wednesday

Lady Techseters earn Top 25 votes after 5-0 start

 RUSTON, La. – With Valentines Day less than 48 hours away, Louisiana Tech received a little Top 25 poll love this week.

The Lady Techsters fresh off a perfect 5-0 performance in Gulf Shores, including a win over No. 17 Auburn, received a total of 10 points in the week one USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll released on Tuesday. Tech is No. 35 in the nation in this week's poll.

Head coach Mark Montgomery and Co. will host Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex in its home opener. Admission for Wednesday's game is free. Tech will then host its three-day, five-team, 14-game tournament Friday through Sunday (tickets can be purchased in advance online at LATechSports.com/tickets or at the gate day of game).

"It's nice to see that some of the country around the country have taken notice of what we did this past weekend," said Montgomery. "However, its one weekend. It's just five games. And this team knows in all honesty, we haven't accomplished anything yet. I have a very mature, driven group. I know they are focused on this week's slate of games. We are glad to be home. I hope we have some great crowds because this group is fun to watch."

Tech enters Wednesday's game against Southeastern Louisiana with some solid numbers in all three phases of the game after the first weekend. The Lady Techsters sport an impressive team earned run average of 1.70 led by the one-two punch of Preslee Gallaway (2-0, 2 saves, 1.95 ERA) and Conference USA Pitcher of the Week Krystal De La Cruz (2-0, 1.27 ERA).

Defensively, Tech committed just two errors in the five games in Gulf Shores with one of those being a wind-blown infield fly that caused some havoc. The Techsters are fielding at a .985 clip.

Despite facing the No. 1 pitcher in all five of its games, including Auburn ace Makalaya Martin, the Lady Techsters batted .308 on the weekend led by Mary Terral (.438, 3 HR, 7 RBI), Zoe Hicks (.400, 3 RBI), Bayli Simon (.400, 3 doubles) and Kimmie Atienza (.375, HR, 6 runs).

Southeastern Louisiana (4-2) hosted six home game during the first weekend of the season, recording four wins. The Lions scored 40 runs in those six games, batting .361 as a team. They will look to test Tech catcher Marilyn Rizzato as the Lions have already stolen 24 bases this season after being one of the top running teams in the country last year.

Seven different pitchers have already logged innings in the circle for Southeastern as the staff boasts a 2.97 ERA.

Tech leads the all-time series against Southeastern Louisiana 47-16 although the Lions won last year's meeting in Hammond 7-1.
