RUSTON, La. – They are only six games into the season, but the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster softball team is making some history.

Former Cedar Creek High School star Mary Terral hit her fourth home run of the young season and freshman Hannah Koenig pitched three strong innings of relief to lead Louisiana Tech to a 7-4 win over Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

The victory is the sixth straight to start the year for Louisiana Tech, matching the best start by the program since 1988. Tech could tie the best start in program history (7-0 in 1986) when it hosts Mississippi Valley State Friday at 4 p.m. in day one of the LA Tech Invitational.

Tech (6-0) overcame a subpar performance by reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Year Preslee Gallaway in the circle. Gallaway, who was outstanding during the opening weekend of the season with two wins and two saves, allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks before leaving with two outs in the fourth inning.

"Preslee was trying to rare back and throw it by people," said Montgomery. "She was just overthrowing. She just has to settle down and be who she is. We didn't play well as a team today. Not at all. We played really, really tight I thought."

With the tying run on base in the top of the fourth and Tech leading 5-4, Jenny Chapman came on in relief and after walking a batter, retired the third out to end the threat. Koenig then came on to start the fifth and pitched the final 3.0 innings allowing three hits and no runs.

"Hannah was the real bright spot tonight," said Montgomery. "Her ball moved and she hit her spots. Other than a couple of mistake pitches that got hit, she threw pretty well."

Tech trailed 1-0 after a half inning of play but Marilyn Rizzato came through with two outs in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run single up the middle, plating Morgan Turkoly and Zoe Hicks and giving the Lady Techsters a 2-1 advantage.

Tech increased its lead in the second, plating three more runs. Kimmie Atienza, Jazlyn Crowder and Hicks all recorded RBIs in the frame as the lead increased to 5-1.

Southeastern Louisiana (4-3) scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth to close the gap to 5-4.

Tech got a little breathing room in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner on base, Terral line her fourth home run of the year just inside the left field foul pole to make the score 7-4.

Koenig allowed a pair of hits in the seventh inning as the tying run came to the plate but a ground out to third baseman Lindsay Edwards ended the game.

Offensively, Tech's 10-hit attack was led by Edwards (2-3), Atienza (2-4, run, RBI, SB), Turkoly (1-2, 2 runs, SB), Crowder (1-4, RBI), Hicks (1-3, run, RBI, SB), Rizzato (1-3, run, 2 RBI), Terral (1-3, HR, run, 2 RBI), Bayli Simon (1-3) and AJ Williams (run, SB).
