Hannah Koenig earned her first collegiate win in the circle to lead the Lady Techsters to a 15-0 win over Mississippi Valley State in five innings on Friday afternoon in Ruston.

With the win, Louisiana Tech improved to 7-0 on the young season, which ties the best start in school history with the 1986 Lady Techsters. LA Tech earned the win by scoring early and often on Friday afternoon in what was the final game on the first day of the LA Tech Invitational.

"I was really proud of our offensive approach no matter who their pitcher was," head coach
Mark Montgomery said following the win. "We hit every pitcher they threw really well and it didn't take us long to make adjustments, so the girls were good tonight in terms of that. It was nice to get Hannah her first win and I thought we played pretty good defense behind her, so all in all it was a good game for us and now we will get ready for tomorrow."

Koenig (1-0) was efficient in the circle for the Lady Techsters after pitching four scoreless innings and allowing just three hits to earn the win.
Zoe Hicks, who started the game at first base for LA Tech, came on to pitch in the fifth, holding Mississippi Valley State scoreless to clinch the victory.

The Lady Techsters opened the scoring in the first inning thanks to a three-run no-doubt home run to left-center by
Marilyn Rizzato to take a 3-0 lead over Mississippi Valley State.

The second inning proved to be even more productive for LA Tech's bats after the Lady Techsters sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring 10 runs on seven hits, which began with freshman
Lindsay Edwards leaving the yard for her first career home run, a solo shot to make it 4-0.

From there,
Sloane Stewartson and
Kimmie Atienza roped back-to-back doubles to make it a five run advantage for the host Techsters. A walk to
Morgan Turkoly set up LA Tech's second three-run homer of the game, this one coming off the bat of senior outfielder
Jazlyn Crowder to give Tech an 8-0 lead. The Lady Techsters added hits from
Mary Terral, Edwards and
AJ Williams to finish the inning with 10 runs and a 13-0 lead over Mississippi Valley State.

LA Tech closed out the scoring in the bottom half of the fourth inning thanks to a leadoff double by Atienza followed by RBI singles from Turkoly and Crowder to end the frame with a 15-0 advantage over the Devilettes.

Every starter for the Lady Techsters reached base safely in the victory, while LA Tech was led by Crowder with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with a home run, walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. Atienza was also 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of doubles, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman rightfielder
Mary Terral was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs and two walks, while Edwards was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs of her own.

The LA Tech Invitational continues on Saturday with the Lady Techsters getting the day started with a 9 a.m. contest versus Southeast Missouri at the Lady Techster Softball Complex in Ruston. LA Tech is also slated to take on Wichita State at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
