Techsters look for their 35th win over the season
RUSTON, La. – Having won 12 of its last 13 games, Louisiana Tech will host Grambling State Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (34-10) rebounded from a midweek loss last Wednesday to sweep a three-game series against UTEP by the scores of 4-3, 9-1 and 3-2. The Lady Techsters will travel to Huntington, West Virginia, this weekend for a three-game series against Marshall.
The Lady Techsters currently sit in first place in the league standings with three conference series remaining against Marshall, WKU and Southern Miss. Tuesday's game against Grambling State is one of only two remaining for Tech (the Techsters will host UL-Lafayette next Wednesday).
Tech continues to lead C-USA in numerous offensive categories behind a balanced offensive attack that features nine players with double digit RBI and double digit runs scored (seven that have scored 20 or more runs this year).
The Lady Techsters will have to find a way to replace the production of junior first baseman Zoe Hicks who suffered a season-ending injury in Sunday's 9-1 win over UTEP. Hicks ranked No. 2 on the team and No. 4 in Conference USA in RBI with 35.
Krystal De La Cruz (13-2, 2.02 ERA) has been stellar over the last month of the season, including picking up four wins last week. Named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week Monday, De La Cruz leads a Tech staff that includes 2018 C-USA Pitcher of the Year Preslee Gallaway (13-6, 3.02 ERA).
Grambling State (16-18) is coming off a weekend sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11-2, 5-4). The Tigers took the Lady Techsters down to the wire in the first meeting two weeks ago as Tech overcame a 5-1 deficit to win 9-5 on a grand slam by Jazlyn Crowder in the sixth inning.
Tech is 19-0 all-time against Grambling State.
