CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Louisiana Tech Track & Field took home a total of four medals, including three on Sunday, over the course of the weekend at the 2019 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Overall, the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters notched 26 top 10 marks and nine top five finishes at the 2019 C-USA Outdoor Championships. The men finished the weekend in ninth place with 47 points, while the women close out the meet in 12th place with 30 points.
"A very young team fought very hard this weekend," head coach
Gary Stanley said following Sunday's action. "Our team achieved a lot of lifetime bests and seasonal bests over the weekend. We persevered as a team despite not having a practice facility due to renovating the track for a couple of months. I am proud of the effort this group of student-athletes gave this weekend. Our assistants worked their tails off this entire trip. We had equipment that was rerouted and required a four-hour trip to retrieve them at 4 a.m. with the meet starting at 8 a.m., so it was a lot of hard work on the part of all three assistant coaches."
Louisiana Tech brought home a pair of gold medals this weekend, starting with
Denzel Harper, who claimed first place and 10 points in the men's long jump on Saturday with a mark of 24-10 (7.57m) in the event. On Sunday, LA Tech continued to shine with
Cole Courtois taking home the gold medal in the men's pole vault for the second straight year at the C-USA Outdoor Championships with a first-place mark of 17-3 (5.26m) to claim 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Other notable marks include LA Tech's
Jon Burrell capturing the bronze medal in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 204-11 (62.47m) to claim six team points for the Bulldogs.
Tyler Griggers also competed in the men's javelin and earned three points in a sixth-place finish with a mark of 191-7 (58.41m).
LA Tech's final medal of the weekend came during the running events on Sunday after
Taylor Shaw qualified for the finals of the women's 200m dash, where she then finished in the third place and brought home a bronze medal and six points for the Lady Techsters with a final time of 23.81 in the race.
