RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech gradaute guard
Derric Jean is one of 14 student-athletes from Conference USA member schools receiving the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, announced the league Friday.
The 11
th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castañeda who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Jean graduated in May in kinesiology and health promotions with a concentration in health and will be pursing his master's in business administration at Louisiana Tech. The Miami, Florida, native will play his final season in a Bulldog uniform in 2019-20 after missing the majority of this past year due to an injury.
A team captain for the Bulldogs last season, Jean has played in 107 games during his Tech career, totaling 900 points and 320 rebounds thus far.
