NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Tech sophomore
Cole Courtois has earned All-America honors for the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season, it was announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Â
Courtois was named Honorable Mention All-America, making him the first pole vaulter in program history to earn All-America accolades, while he is one of 21 Conference USA student-athletes to earn All-America honors this season. He is the first LA Tech student-athlete to pick up All-America honors since Mia Adams was named Honorable Mention in 2016.
Â
Courtois took home the gold medal in the men's pole vault for the second straight year at the 2019 Conference USA Outdoor Championships with a first-place mark of 17-3 (5.26m) to claim 10 points for the Bulldogs. Courtois qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin after finishing in the top 12 at the East Preliminary Championships.
Â
The sophomore was one of only 24 pole vaulters in the nation that qualified for the NCAA Track & Field Championships and finished the season ranked 18th nationally in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 17-6.5 in the finals.
