AUSTIN, Texas – Louisiana Tech pole vaulter
Cole Courtois once again put together a season-best performance on Wednesday, which resulted in an 18th-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas.
Â
A native of New Iberia, Courtois began the competition by clearing 17-0.75 on his third and final attempt in the first round to advance to the next height progression. With the bar then set at 17-6.5, Courtois needed just two attempts to notch a season-best mark of 17-6.5 (5.35m) and continue on in the competition.
Â
Courtois missed on his next two attempts with the height set at 18-0.5, but gave his best effort on the final attempt, eventually falling just short of advancing.
Â
"Cole finishes his sophomore season 18th in the nation and had a season-best mark of 17-6.5 today," head coach
Gary Stanley said. "He had one good attempt at 18 feet at the end, but we are very proud of that young man and his performance today."
Â
The sophomore was one of only 24 pole vaulters in the nation that qualified for the NCAA Track & Field Championships.
