LA Tech Begins Stretch of Four Road Games in Four Days

Starts on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alcorn State

RUSTON – Fresh off a season-opening win, the Louisiana Tech soccer team will now begin a challenging stretch of playing four road games in four days, beginning on Sunday at 2 p.m. versus Alcorn State inside Spinks-Casem Stadium.

The following Monday, LA Tech (1-0) will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 5 p.m.  Then on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lady Techsters will face LSU-Alexandria at 4:30 p.m. and Nicholls State at 4 p.m., respectively.

The squad was able to pull off their fifth straight victory in a season opener by shutting out in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana, 1-0, in Hammond.

Defensively, LA Tech held SLU to five shot attempts and Carlotta Cartelli came up with a late save to secure the shutout.

Meanwhile on offense, the Lady Techsters were also limited to just five shot attempts.  However, Elizabeth Doll got on the end of a Jaelyn Peeples free kick early in the second period and sent the ball into the back of the net on a diving header at the top of the six.

It marked her seventh career goal, the third of which proved to be the game winner.  For Peeples, it was her 14th career assist which moved her into a tie for fifth place in program history.

Alcorn State (0-1) lost its season opener at home to Jacksonville State, falling 7-0.  The Lady Braves returned 13 players from last season, including nine starters.

LA Tech and Alcorn State played last season for the first time ever and the Lady Techsters were up 4-0 at halftime, thanks mostly to Amber Posthauer who had already notched a hat trick.  However, constant lightning in the area forced the game to be cancelled and did not count.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-0) opened its 2019 season with a 2-1 victory over Central Baptist.  UAPB is breaking in 17 newcomers, but they do return five starters.  Monday will be only the fourth meeting between the two programs and the first since 2008.  LA Tech leads the series, 2-0-1.

LSU-Alexandria (0-1) fell 4-0 to No. 1 ranked and defending NAIA national champion William Carey in the season opener.  The Generals are looking to build off their first ever appearance in a RRAC Tournament finals.

The two teams have met only once with that meeting taking place in Ruston in 2017.  The Lady Techsters were winners by a final score of 3-1.

The final opponent of this back-to-back-to-back-to-back stretch is Nicholls State who overpowered Mississippi Valley State in its season opener, winning 5-0.  The Colonels are guided this year by new head coach Danny Free.

LA Tech and Nicholls State have met six times on the pitch with the Lady Techsters winning all six meetings.  The last time the two squads squared off was in 2016 in Thibodaux.
