JACKSON, Miss. – The Louisiana Tech volleyball team hit a season-best .397 on Tuesday and coasted to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-17) win over Jackson State.
Freshman middle blocker
Laura Ehieze led the way with an ultra-efficient seven kills on eight attempts with just one error (.750).
Jordyn Carswell contributed a team-high nine kills.
Abigail Hildenbrand and
Mia Prostran combined for 24 assists.
"After a tough weekend, this was a great time for a mid-week match so we could bounce back and get an opportunity to work on aspects of the game we know we need to improve," said Lady Techster head coach
Amber McCray. "I was pleased with our ability to score points by staying aggressive from the serving line and getting Jackson State out of system for much of the match."
"Jordyn's all-around game provided consistency for us throughout the match and Laura carried her momentum from last weekend into an efficient performance tonight. Our setters also did a great job distributing the ball to lead a balanced offensive attack and putting our hitters in a position to be successful," McCray continued.
Tech was in control from the match's first moments, jumping out to a 12-4 lead. A block from Davis and ace from
Marie-Helene Verlinden keyed two early four point spurts. The Lady Techsters closed the run with another four point run, including back-to-back kills from Ehieze.
Despite the Techsters' easy victory in the first set, Jackson State refused to go down easily, taking an 11-7 lead to open the second set. Tech roared back late in the set, going on two five-point runs to take the frame 25-19.
The third and final set of the day was all Tech from start to finish.
Carter Mirich's serving kept Jackson State off balance and allowed the Lady Techsters to score seven straight points early in the frame. Then, a solo block from
Molly Watkins closed the set and gave Tech a 25-17 win.
Up next, the Lady Techsters return home for the LA Tech Invitational. Tech's home opener will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept 13 in the Thomas Assembly Center.
