RUSTON – After tallying 12 points to help the Louisiana Tech soccer team post a perfect 4-0 mark during week two of action,
Autumn Woodard was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
It marks the second straight week a Lady Techster has received this honor as
Amber Posthauer earned it in week one. It is the first ever Player of the Week honor for Woodard.
Â
The sophomore transfer has certainly made her presence felt having only been in Ruston a month. This past week, she registered five goals and two assists on 10 total shots (seven of those coming on goal).
Â
The goal-seeking striker got the week started by netting a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The very next day in a 2-1 win at LSU-Alexandria, her one-touch finish from seven yards out got LA Tech on the scoreboard.
Â
Then on Friday night at I-20 foe ULM, Woodard was involved in three of the team's five goals. She scored twice and assisted on another in the 5-1 route of the Warhawks.Â
Â
And to wrap up the week, the Orange Park, Florida native notched the game-winning goal in the second half to help defeat Northwestern State, 3-1.
Â
Woodard has now scored in five straight contests, setting a new program record. The previous mark was four which had been done by four Lady Techsters.Â
Â
She currently leads the team in points (19) and goals (eight), a big reason why LA Tech has gotten off to a 6-0 start to the 2019 season.
LA Tech now looks forward to its first home match of the 2019 season which comes on Friday, Sept. 6 against McNeese State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ruston Junior High School.
