BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Jan. 10, 2020) – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field squads showed success across the board as they concluded action at the Birmingham Invitational in the first indoor meet of the 2020 season.

"Both of our teams competed hard today," LA Tech head track and field coach
Gary Stanley remarked. "We are young and not where we want to be performance-wise, but are definitely headed in the right direction. I was also very impressed with my new coaches and how they handled their event groups.

On the men's side,
Denzel Harper turned in an impressive performance in the long jump, finishing second with a mark of 7.38 m (24.21 feet).

Meanwhile, on the women's side, the 4x400 m relay team of
Jada Branch,
Taylor Shaw, Kayla Watson and Ma'asa Gay placed third with a time of 3:53.67.

Shaw and Watson also impressed in the 60 m dash, both qualifying for the semifinals in the event.

Also highlighting the women's side was
Sydney Anderson, who placed fifth in the high jump at 1.69 m, just 0.4 m off her personal best of 1.73.

Leah Scott also placed fifth overall in the triple jump, with a distance of 11.9 m.

In the men's distance medley, Connor Killian,
Seth Boullion,
Mason Youberg and
Austin Ballow finished second ahead of teams from Mississippi State and Alabama with a time of 10:17.69, and finished just under a 10
th of a second behind first place in an extremely competitive 10-minute race.

The Bulldog men also impressed in the 4x400 m relay, also finishing third in the event. Boullion,
Mason Melancon, Ed'Jim Beaver and Christopher Robinson secured the third-place finish with a time of 3:16.62.

Rounding out some of the highlights for the men was
Austin Ballow and
William Harrell finishing fifth and sixth in the mile, respectively, while
Murphy Bavinga placed fifth in the triple jump.

The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will be back in action next weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Vanderbilt Invitational for the second indoor event of the 2020 season.
