Bulldogs Team Up with Coaching for Literacy in the #Fight4Literacy

#Fight4Literacy game is this Thursday versus Rice

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech and head coach Eric Konkol will host the annual #Fight4Literacy game on Jan. 16 versus Rice to promote childhood reading and raise funds for the local literacy work of Dogs With A Cause.

This will mark the fifth straight year the Bulldogs will take part in Coaching for Literacy which works with sports teams all over the country to show the important of literacy.

"We are pleased to take part in Fight for Literacy for a fifth straight year," Konkol said.  "Raising awareness about the issue of illiteracy in America is important to us and we look forward to continuing our support for young children who are struggling to read."

To raise awareness about the issues connected to illiteracy, the LA Tech coaching staff will wear Coaching for Literacy's Green for Literacy awareness kit, showcasing a green lapel, wrist band and green tie.

For every $10 contributed by Louisiana Tech Bulldog fans, Coaching for Literacy (CFL) will provide two books to local kids.  To make a donation, visit http://igfn.us/vf/LATECH4LITERACY. Fans can get $5 off a ticket to the Thursday night game inside the Thomas Assembly Center with proof of donation in person.

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 65 percent of 4th-graders in America cannot read at grade-level.

The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to use the power of sports to raise awareness about the program of illiteracy and generate financial support for literacy programs nationwide.  Coaching for Literacy has conducted over 125 #Fight4Literacy games with more than 50 NCAA teams.
