Top two three-point shooting teams in C-USA meet in Ruston
RUSTON, La. – The top two three-point shooting teams in Conference USA square off Saturday afternoon when Louisiana Tech hosts UAB at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. The game can also be seen live with a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
Tech (10-7, 2-4 C-USA) is coming off an impressive 78-60 win over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night while UAB (12-7, 4-3 C-USA) defeated Southern Miss 74-68 in Hattiesburg.
"They lead the country in three-point percentage," said LA Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "I think Randy does a great job with them. They can shoot it with the best of them. I have a lot of respect for how they compete and how they play. We have to have a great defensive effort. We have to be able to attack them. They have some players that do a great job of moving without the basketball. We have to be really solid. That will be a big challenge for us in this game."
UAB boasts three of the top five three-point shooters in the league while LA Tech boasts the other two that rank within the top five. The Blazers start five seniors, including guards Rachael Childress (17.5 ppg, 75-163 three-pointers) and Miyah Barnes (13.2 ppg, 33-73 three-pointers) who rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the league in three-point field goal percentage.
As a team, UAB averages 77.0 points per game – tops in Conference USA – and are shooting 46 percent from the field and a blistering 41 percent from beyond the arc.
Tech counters with a team that has hit 23 of 40 from beyond the arc in its last two home contests, including a season-high 12 three-pointers in the win over Middle Tennessee.
Keiunna Walker (12.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg) and Amber Dixon (11.2 ppg, 2.7 apg) lead Tech in scoring while Raizel Guinto (8.9 ppg, 36-88 three-pointers) and Lotte Sant (4.9 ppg, 23-57 three-pointers) rank No. 3 and No. 4 in C-USA in three-point field goal percentage.
UAB leads a very non-traditional series 5-4, including a 4-1 mark in games played in Ruston. The visiting team has won seven of the nine games played in the series as both teams won on the other teams home floors last year.
