RUSTON – After several revisions to opponents, dates and even locations, Louisiana Tech head coach
Eric Konkol announced Wednesday the 2020-21 Bulldog Basketball schedule.
The newly-revamped schedule includes a total of 27 games, nine non-conference and 18 Conference USA matchups. Fifteen games will be played inside the Thomas Assembly Center, including the season opener on Nov. 27 against UT Arlington as part of the Louisiana Tech Classic presented by Hampton Inn of Ruston.
"This year's schedule has seen many changes due to the ever-changing environment everyone is navigating," said Konkol. "We are pleased to have constructed a schedule that prioritizes the health and safety of our players and staff, but also provides an opportunity to play very competitive games while preparing for a strong C-USA season."
The Bulldogs will also host the Demons of Northwestern State on Nov. 29 as part of the event. The home slate continues on Dec. 3 against I-20 foe ULM.
The remaining non-conference schedule consists of road games at LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM and home contests versus Southeastern Louisiana, Jackson State and Lamar.
"Our 9-game non-conference schedule has a regional feel with familiar opponents and gives us the benefit of not traveling outside the state of Louisiana," said Konkol.
The format has changed again for conference as schools will play two games per visit at four select C-USA schools and host four select teams for a two-game series (Thursday and Saturday) while also playing a rival opponent one time home and away.
"Our conference schedule has also been revised to best prioritize health and safety by minimizing our travel and our contact with multiple teams," added Konkol. "We will play the same opponent twice each week which will create some exciting matchups and have the feel of a playoff series."
LA Tech will open conference play on Dec. 31 against Marshall in Ruston. The Bulldogs will then take on the Thundering Herd again in the TAC on Jan. 2.
They will also play host to UTSA, UAB and Rice twice. The road matchups are versus WKU, UTEP, North Texas and Middle Tennessee. The home-and-away series will come against Southern Miss.
The final week of the regular season may be utilized to reschedule any postponed games.
The top 12 regular season finishers in conference play will qualify for the 2021 C-USA Basketball Championships presented by the Baylor, Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star. The event is scheduled for March 10-13 in Frisco, Texas.
