COMMERCE, Texas – The Louisiana Tech Soccer team closed out the fall season on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout victory over Texas A&M-Commerce at Lion Soccer Field.
 
LA Tech (2-1) got a first-half goal from Morgan Miller and tacked on an insurance goal in the second half from the foot of Amber Posthauer.  In net, Maggie Boston recorded three crucial saves to help blank the Lions.
 
"Texas A&M-Commerce was a difficult opponent today," said head coach Kevin Sherry.  "They were very aggressive and played a very direct style which caused us problems in the first half.  We made some adjustments at halftime and this enabled us to control the tempo of the game better."
 
The Lady Techsters came out firing, sending five shots in the first five minutes of action. 
 
It was not until the 19th minute when Anna Loftus dribbled down the left side and sent a low cross to Miller who had the one-touch finish to the far post. 
 
LA Tech was able to keep that one-goal advantage through the first period in large part to Boston who came up with a save off a penalty kick opportunity by Texas A&M-Commerce in the 37th minute.  It was the redshirt sophomore's second straight appearance in goal and second straight win.    
 
"Maggie did very well to keep us ahead in the game with a fine penalty kick save because it was important to have our noses ahead going into halftime," said Sherry. 
 
As the Lady Techsters controlled the tempo more so in the second half, the second goal eventually came in the 79th minute when Sophie Fijneman had her pass deflected that landed at Posthauer's feet.  The senior promptly delivered a shot 20 yards out that snuck under the crossbar. 
 
The Lady Techsters, who also got a win over Abilene Christian three weeks ago, will return to action in February to complete their 2020-21 schedule. 
 
"We learned some valuable lessons today which we can take with us into the spring," said Sherry.  "This was the goal of our three games this fall and we feel we are now in a better place than when we started preseason in August."
 
Elizabeth Doll and Tomoyo Kuroyanagi went the distance on the back line to contribute to the shut out.  Josie Studer led the team in shots with seven (three of those coming on goal).
