Bulldogs Shine on Offense in 91-77 Win

LA Tech improves to 2-0 on the early season

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech got big offensive outputs from several Bulldogs, led by Kalob Ledoux who had a game-high 23 points, as they put together a 91-77 victory over Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.

The offense was coming from everywhere in the final matchup of the Louisiana Tech Classic presented by Hampton Inn of Ruston.

LA Tech (2-0) was making shots from the outside to the tune of 11 made three-pointers.  And they were pounding the ball inside with 32 paint points.  And they sank 20 of their 25 free throw attempts.

The result was their second win of the season and their 20th straight home victory over in-state foe NSU (0-3).

"You want to have a balance and you also have some different guys who can step up," said head coach Eric Konkol.  "Some guys, it wasn't their night so much, but then you have contributions and other guys stepping up in different ways.

"We played a small lineup.  We played a big lineup.  We're trying to find ourselves right now.  Without a scrimmage or an exhibition, we're trying to find ourselves in these games against some tough opponents. We're fortunate to come away with this win.  I have so much respect for coach (Mike) McConathy and the work he does there.  I'm just happy we were able to find a win."

It was the Ledoux show early on, scoring 16 of the team's 25 points.  Then Isaiah Crawford took over the game offensively, scoring 11 of the team's last 18 points in the first half.

"I was just trying to stay aggressive," said Ledoux.  "Whatever they were giving me, I was taking it.  I thank my teammates.  They found me on a lot of plays so I could do what I was doing."

His first make came on a three-pointer with 3:57 remaining in the stanza that tied things up for the seventh time at 28-28.  He would finish his strong offensive run with a slam dunk to give the 'Dogs a 43-38 edge going into the locker room (largest lead at that point).

The Demons stayed within striking range early in the second half, cutting the deficit down to one at 47-46.  However, the Bulldogs proceeded to go on a 22-8 run to build a 15-point lead with 7:36 to go in the game.

During that stretch, it was the offensive production from JaColby Pemberton and Kenneth Lofton, Jr. who combined to score 16 of those 22 points.

NSU stayed in the game with some offense of its own, hitting on half of its three-point attempts (10-of-20).  They got to within single-digits at 80-71 with over three minutes to go, but that was as close as they would get.

Ledoux, who came in averaging 19.5 points per game against NSU from his time at McNeese State, was one point shy of tying his career-high as a Bulldog.  The redshirt senior was 6-of-8 shooting, firing in four triples.

After scoring just two points in the season opener (first action since injury knee on Jan. 11), Crawford busted out for a career-high 19 points.

In just his second collegiate game, Lofton, Jr. dominated the paint to the tune of a career-high 16 points.  And JaColby Pemberton was stellar off the bench against, registering another double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with a career-high five assists.

"For my second game now as a freshman in college and getting to play, it actually feels amazing to get the experience of college and giving the crowd a fun experience," said Lofton, Jr.

As a team, LA Tech shot 51.7 percent from the field (30-58), 47.8 percent from downtown (11-23) and 80 percent from the foul line (20-25).

NSU went 28-of-66 from the field for 42.4 percent.  Three Demons scored in double-figures, led by Jamaure Gregg who recorded 21 points and eight rebounds.

LA Tech returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 3 when they host another in-state program in the ULM Warhawks in the TAC.  Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
