RUSTON, La. – Extra-base hits and a pitcher's duel on Sunday highlighted Louisiana Tech Baseball's three strong intra-squad scrimmages at Ruston High School Baseball Field over the weekend.
Senior
Taylor Young's side won all three matchups, giving the blue team a weekend sweep over the red team. Young paced his team at the plate in Friday's impressive victory, recording two home runs, a triple, seven RBI and four runs scored. Redshirt sophomore
Adarius Myers followed Taylor in the two-hole, recording a single, a double, two RBI and four runs scored.
Other top offensive contributors in the 18-5 victory for the Blue Team included senior
Steele Netterville and sophomore
Kyle Hasler. Netterville reached base all six times he stepped to the plate on Friday, smashing a home run, drawing four walks and taking a hit by pitch. Hasler went 4-for-5 with a triple.
Sophomore
Ben Brantley once again showed off his power in Saturday's contest, crushing two long home runs as the blue team captured a 7-4 win. One of Brantley's home runs was a three-run shot, which proved to be the difference in Saturday's score line. Young carried his momentum from Friday into Saturday's contest with three hits and two stolen bases.
On Sunday, a pitching battle ended in a 5-1 victory for the blue team. Pitchers Tanner Knight,
Bryce Fagan and
Tyler Follis all delivered strong performances on the mound for their respective squads.

Head Coach Lane Burroughs on pitching over the weekend:
"For the second straight week, Wes Kreger was really good. He had tremendous tilt and downward action to his baseball. He's really tall and he goes over the top. When he's got that downward action going, he's really tough to handle as a hitter. He was pumping strikes and throwing his breaking ball for a strike."
"I thought [Ryan] Jennings and [Jarret] Whorff were really good again. These are your guys that are steady. It's Jennings, Whorff, [Jonathan] Fincher – I thought all of them threw it extremely well. They have a professional approach to their time on the mound, and they were filling up the zone with multiple competitive pitches."
"Nick Ellis is a young man, a lefty … We tell guys to figure out who you are, find your niche and he's a young man that's come in and quietly has put in a really good fall. He's a juco pitcher who goes out there and gets lefties out. He fills up the zone with multiple pitches. It's not going to blow you away, but he knows who he is and I've been really impressed with him. He had another efficient outing on Saturday."
"Tanner Knight was really good again.
Tyler Follis and
Bryce Fagan were outstanding. That's two great outings from Fagan in the past two weekends, and he was lights out. His breaking ball was really good and he was dotting 90 on the black. As for Follis, it was the best I've seen him this fall. A very professional approach with throwing strikes, and I thought his changeup was outstanding. I was very, very happy with Tyler. I was really pleased with those guys on Sunday."
Burroughs on his team's momentum after the fourth weekend of official practice:
"When you look at our lineup this year, we've got the same offensive team back, and I think we're going to have length in our lineup.
Taylor Young wreaked havoc all weekend, and as he goes, we go. You talk about Wells, Netterville and Bates … We're getting walks. We're getting our HBPs. I think our pitchers are doing a really good job. The one thing right now is that we're getting to that point, it's November. The great teams push through it, and the average to good teams fall by the wayside. It's 19 months out there at Ruston High, and it's been tough. But our guys have been great, the energy has been good. Nobody is complaining, and they just want to play ball. I love how our team is coming together. The guys that are going to help us on the bump are taking that step forward. You can say the same offensively. For example,
Jackson Slaughter played more over the weekend, and this might be the first time he's caught three straight games over a weekend since he's been here, but I thought he was outstanding. He did a tremendous job blocking the baseball and throwing the baseball over the weekend. He's playing behind two really, really good catchers, and they're all the same age. He played outstanding all weekend."
