Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Malcolm Butler

@LATechWBB Downs ULM, 63-45

RUSTON, La. – Anna Larr Roberson recorded a double double and Keiunna Walker and Amber Dixon each scored 15 points to lead Louisiana Tech to a 63-45 win over ULM Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.

LA Tech (4-1) overcame a poor shooting night from the field in the victory, including hitting just 2-of-22 from beyond the arc. Tech improved to 47-9 all-time
against ULM with the win.

"We had a really rough night shooting the basketball," said LA Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "We've got to take easy shots, number one. We took some difficult shots. The last five shots of the half were empty, we were not buckling down and being tough enough to fight for a good shot. That's where we've got to grow up.

"We had a different lineup out at that time with three freshmen out there, and when you're in those positions you've got to know what you're doing. We went 2-of-22 from three, and I thought we had some good looks."

The Lady Techsters forced a season-high 25 turnovers and committed a season-low 10 and outscored ULM (2-4) 26-2 on points off of turnovers.

"I thought we defended well," said Stoehr. "I was disappointed a little bit offensively, and we've got to be better. I'm proud of the way we took care of the basketball, and probably four of those 10 turnovers were offensive fouls."

After Tech scored the first six points of the game, ULM used a 15-3 run to take a 15-9 lead with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter. But Tech used a 10-0 run to retake the lead and never look back. The Lady Techsters led 37-30 at halftime and 53-43 through three quarters before starting the fourth quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 24-point lead.

Roberson scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added three steals while Dixon added 15 points and eight rebounds and four steals. Walker overcame early foul trouble to score 15 points and draw four more charges.

"I thought Dixon really responded like a senior," said Stoehr. "She Anna Larr really carried us there offensively in that first half. They did a good job.

"Walker is really good at getting herself in position, and what people don't understand is that, yes, you're getting a foul on the other team, but it's also a momentum change. It's a momentum shift, and it gets you the ball back. I thought she did that a number of times in some key moments and in some runs for us that were really big. She's got a knack for that."

Kierra Brimzy led ULM with 16 points while Kyren Whittington added 13 points.

Tech returns to action Sunday when it hosts UL-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
