LA Tech Faces First Road Test at LSU

Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on the SEC Network

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team heads out on the road for the first time this season, going south to take on LSU in Baton Rouge at 5 p.m. on Sunday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The matchup will be nationally-televised on the SEC Network with Dave Neal and Jon Sundvold calling the action.  It will also be streamed on the WatchESPN app.  Fans can listen to Dave Nitz and Jack Thigpen call the action through the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston) and KOKA 980 AM (Shreveport) as well as on the LA Tech Athletics app.

LA Tech (3-0) remained undefeated on the season after leading wire-to-wire in a 78-62 victory over I-20 neighbor ULM this past Thursday.  The Bulldogs also remained perfect against the Warhawks inside the Thomas Assembly Center, improving to 15-0.

It was another balanced-scoring attack for the 'Dogs as five players netted double-digit points – Kalob Ledoux (15), Cobe Williams (career-high 14), JaColby Pemberton (12), Amorie Archibald (11) and Kenneth Lofton, Jr. (10).

Pemberton made his first start of the season against ULM, but one thing that was not a first was his double-double.  The redshirt senior tacked on a game-high 11 rebounds for his fourth straight (dating back to last season).  He currently ranks second in the country in this category.

Not to be outdone, the freshman Lofton, Jr. notched his first career double-double by adding a career-high 10 boards.  It was the first time since 2017 that two Bulldogs posted double-doubles in the same game.

For the season, Pemberton is averaging 15.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while Lofton, Jr. is averaging 10.0 points and 7.0 boards per contest.  Ledoux continues to anchor the team in scoring with an average of 17.0 points, having made a team-high nine three-pointers.

LSU (2-1) has a potent scoring attack as well, averaging 90.3 points per game while shooting 52 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.  The Tigers have recorded victories of SIU Edwardsville and Southeastern Louisiana and dropped a four-point loss to Saint Louis.

They return All-SEC preseason first team members Javonte Smart and Trendon Watford, but it has been the freshman Cameron Thomas who has stood out so far this season.  He enters Sunday averaging 24.3 points per game, recently earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

The Bulldogs and Tigers have had two competitive battles the last two years.  LA Tech fell, 74-67, in Baton Rouge in 2018 and then dropped an 83-70 loss in the Hoops 4 Disaster Relief exhibition game in Ruston in 2019.
