MIAMI, Fla. – Louisiana Tech hopes to use the momentum from its win over Marshall Saturday when the Lady Techsters hit the road once again for a two-game swing at FIU and Florida Atlantic.
Tech (11-11, 3-8) will face FIU (5-17, 2-9) Thursday at 6 p.m. CT at Ocean Bank Convocation Center in a game that can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM. The game can also be seen with a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
The Lady Techsters snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with an impressive defensive effort against Marshall, holding the Thundering Herd to just 50 points and less than 30 percent from the field. It was one of Tech's best defensvie efforts of the season.
Anna Larr Roberson pulled down a career-high tying 14 rebounds, Grayson Bright added nine and Raizel Guinto added a career-high seven as Tech outrebounded Marshall 46-38.
"I thought we defended really well in our last game," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "And we rebounded the basketball. Those are two things we need to continue to do down the stretch."
Tech is 12-1 all-time against FIU, including a 90-72 victory over the Golden Panthers last year in Ruston. However, the one loss came two years ago in Tech's last trip to Miami, a 56-54 victory by FIU.
FIU is led by the one-two punch of Jiselle Thomas (10.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg) and Chelsea Guimaraes (10.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg) although the Golden Panthers are averaging a league-low 53.4 points per game this season. FIU has dropped two in a row and seven of its last eight games with the lone victory coming over Marshall.
LA Tech is paced by Keiunna Walker (12.3 ppg, 35 steals), Amber Dixon (11.8 ppg, 37 steals) and Grayson Bright (8.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg). Roberson (5.5 rpg) leads Tech on the glass while Raizel Guinto (40-114) and Lotte Sant (30-80) are Tech's top two three-point threats.
