@LATechWBB Shuts Down FIU, 68-44

MIAMI, Fla. – For the second straight game Louisiana Tech used a solid team defensive effort in a win, this time defeating FIU 68-44 Thursday night at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

Tech (12-11, 4-8 C-USA) won for just the second time on the road this year while improving to 12-1 all-time against the Golden Panthers (5-18, 2-10 C-USA).

"I'm proud of our effort tonight," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "I thought we came out and defended really well, holding them to just 13 points in the first half. I thought even offensively we were pretty good in the first half. We got some open looks, we just didn't know them down.

"We were able to really separate from them in the second half by pulling down defensive rebounds and pushing the basketball in transition. We hit 10 three-pointers and shot almost 50 percent from the field."

Tech limited FIU to just six points in the first quarter and seven more in the second quarter in building a 24-13 advantage in the halftime locker room. FIU hit just 5-of-24 field goals in the opening 20 minutes, marking the second straight game Tech has held its opponent under 20 points in the first half.

Both teams picked up the offensive pace in the final two quarters. Tech shot 60 percent (18-30) from the field in the second half while FIU shot 50 percent (12-24). However, Tech forced 18 turnovers by the Golden Panthers while committing just 11.

Grayson Bright led Tech with 16 points while Amber Dixon added 13 points.

Tech returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m CT when the Lady Techsters travel to Boca Raton to face FAU.
