RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday when the Lady Techsters host defending Conference USA champion Rice at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
It will be Senior Day as Daria McCutcheon and Grayson Bright will be honored during a pregame ceremony along with student support staff members Lily Sinclair, Allison Young and Madalyn Ashley. McCutcheon (Plano, Texas) has played four years in Ruston while Bright (Keller, Texas) has spent the past two years in Ruston (after transferring from Texas Tech).
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also watch the contest through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
Louisiana Tech can clinch a spot in the upcoming C-USA Tournament with (1) one win over its final three games OR (2) one UTSA loss over its final three games. The C-USA Tournament will be March 11-14 in Frisco, Texas.
This marks the second meeting of the year between the two programs with Rice defeating LA Tech 60-47 in Houston on Jan. 16.
LA Tech (13-13, 5-10 C-USA) is coming off a 62-52 win over FIU last Saturday. Tech led for the majority of the game before the Panthers took a 52-51 lead with less than four minutes to play. Tech ended the game on an 11-0 run.
Rice (18-8, 13-2 C-USA) saw its 30-game C-USA winning streak come to an end Feb. 13 at Old Dominion. In fact the Owls lost back-to-back games on that road trip, also falling at Charlotte. Rice has won its last two games against North Texas and UAB.
The Owls boast the defending C-USA Player of the Year in Erica Ogwumike (18.9 ppg, 10.3 rpg), who missed the first meeting of the year between the two teams. Rice also boasts 6-foot-9-inch Nancy Mulkey (11.2 ppg, 69 blocks) in the middle.
LA Tech leads the all-time series against Rice 15-11, including a 10-2 mark in games played in Ruston.
