LA Tech Turns the Page to Marshall

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech has to quickly turn the page after a disappointing loss as they travel to the state of West Virginia to take on Marshall on Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT inside the Cam Henderson Center.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Mark Martin and Bob Bolen calling the action.  Fans can also listen to Dave Nitz call the game on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KOKA 93.3 FM/980 AM (Shreveport) and KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) as well as on the LA Tech Athletics app.

LA Tech (17-6, 8-3 C-USA) dug itself too big of a hole in the first half against WKU on Thursday, eventually falling by a final score of 65-54.  They trailed the entire game, finding themselves down 20 at half and were only able to slice the deficit down to 10 midway through the second stanza.

A couple of rare things happened in the game.  First, the Bulldogs did not have a single player score in double figures (first time since 2013).  They also only took four free throw attempts, the fewest since 2011.

One milestone did take place and that was Kalob Ledoux reaching 1,000 points for his collegiate career (LA Tech/McNeese State).  There are now three Bulldogs on the team (along with DaQuan Bracey and Derric Jean) with over 1,000 career points scored.

LA Tech has had a history this season of bouncing back after losses.  In fact, they are 5-0 when doing so in large part because of their defensive performances.  In the games following a defeat, the team is allowing just 58.6 points with the opponents shooting just 34 percent from the field.

Saturday will be a tough assignment as Marshall (11-13, 5-6 C-USA) is still scoring it at a high clip at 74.8 points per game despite the graduation of mainstays Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks.

The Herd have the 10th fastest tempo in the country and rank in the top 15 in the country in steals per game (9.0) and blocks per game (5.8).  Both marks rank second in C-USA behind only FIU who LA Tech will play in its following game.

While LA Tech is in a two-way tie for second in the league standings, Marshall is in a four-way tie for seventh after pulling out a 72-58 victory over Southern Miss this past Thursday in Huntington.

The Herd are led by a two-headed monster in guards Taevion Kinsey and Jarrod West.  Both players rarely come off the floor and are averaging 15.6 and 14.3 points per game, respectively.  They have also combined for 188 assists and 81 steals.

LA Tech won the first four meetings in the series when the two became league opponents in C-USA.  One of those wins came at Marshall on the famous half-court buzzer beater by Derric Jean.

However, the Herd have won three of the last four times, including last season in Ruston when they spoiled the Bulldogs chance for an undefeated home season.
