LA Tech Shuts Out JSU for Third Straight Win

Lady Techsters improve to 6-4 on the spring season

RUSTON – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the Louisiana Tech tennis team extended its winning streak to three after shutting out Jackson State by a score of 4-0 at the Ruston Sports Complex.

A day after gutting out a 4-3 victory at Stephen F. Austin, LA Tech (6-4) returned to Ruston and was sharp on all courts against JSU (3-4), getting the doubles point as well as three points from the top three singles positions.

"It was such a great day for tennis," said head coach Amanda Stone.  "We love playing at home and feeding off the energy of our crowd.  Really thankful to have Dr. Guice and his wife Kathy, many of our athletic administration and the Lady Techster bowling team cheering us on.

"We had set a goal to win three in a row to gain confidence and momentum before heading into our conference matches next week and we are proud to accomplish that in front of our Tech family and fans."

For the seventh time (out of 10 matches) this season, the Lady Techsters jumped out on top 1-0 by picking up the doubles point.

Ana Jover and Claudia Oravcova teamed up for their third straight and team-leading sixth victory of the spring with a 6-2 triumph on court two.  Then on court one, Nadja Manjon and Alexia Romero improved to 3-1 as a duo with a 6-4 victory.

Jover also got things started off well in singles, overpowering Robin Alston to win 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.  Manjon followed with 6-1, 6-4 victory against Nina Zhang at No. 1 and the clincher came from the No. 3 spot where Ilana Tetrushvili came out on top 6-4, 6-1 versus Sherine Salem.

Romero, Oravcova and Andrea Perez-Lopez were all up a set on their respective courts when the team match was called.

"We fought through a victory yesterday and came out today sharp from start to finish," said Stone.  "Proud of our doubles today and all of the singles.  We'll enjoy this streak over the weekend, then set our sights on North Texas and UTEP."

It is a big weekend coming up for LA Tech with two conference matchups.  First, they will play at North Texas on Friday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. and then stay in Denton, Texas to battle UTEP on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m.
