OPELIKA, Ala. - The Louisiana Tech men's golf team fought through adverse weather conditions and concluded action with a ninth-place finish at the Tiger Invitational on Monday afternoon.
Final Results
The Bulldogs posted their best round as a team on Monday's final round, firing a combined two-under par 286 to wrap up play from the Grand National Lake Course. Tech began the tournament on Sunday with a one-under - the fourth lowest score of the day. However, all 20 participating teams faced high-force winds on Saturday, as just one team finished round two at or below even par.
Tech finished ahead of a pair of ranked programs in No. 45 Arkansas State and No. 41 James Madison as well as Conference USA foes Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss.
Junior
Mac Murphy posted one of the most complete rounds of the tournament, leading the Bulldogs with a -5, 211 (70, 72, 69) over his 54 holes of action. Murphy was the only Bulldog to shoot even or below par in every round, and finished action as one of just 14 golfers to shoot under par.
Murphy finished tied for third out of a crowded field of 102 golfers and carded 15 birdies over his three rounds. He placed ahead of three nationally ranked individuals including No. 33 Jovan Rebula from Auburn, No. 57 Guillaume Fanonnel from ULM and No. 71 Andrew Kozan from Auburn. With his -5 finish, he tied his season low score.
The Bulldogs return to the state of Louisiana next Monday, taking part in the UL-Lafayette Classics.
