RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech senior catcher
Marilyn Rizzato was named to the 2020 Academic All-District 6 Softball Team selected by CoSIDA which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Rizzato boasts a 3.76 grade point average in biology and will be completing her undergraduate work this spring quarter. District 6 includes players on programs from the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
She was just one of 11 players from those 11 states that earned the honor for District 6. She was just one of two players from Conference USA to earn the award, joining WKU's Kennedy Sullivan (District 2). She was just one of two players from the state of Louisiana, joining LSU's Shelby Wickersham.
The Forney, Texas, native is a four-time Conference USA Academic Medalist and a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member while earning a spot on the LA Tech AD Honor Roll numerous times during her college career.
On the field, she was a three-time all-Conference USA selection – one of only a handful of players in program history to earn all-league at least three times – and was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament team in 2019.
She started four years behind the plate for the Lady Techsters, seeing action in 195 games while making 191 starts. She totaled 125 hits, 28 doubles, 13 home runs, while scoring 71 runs and recording 84 RBI. She had 10 career stolen bases.
However, she made a name for herself behind the plate where she proved to be the top defensive catcher in Conference USA, throwing out 34 base stealers.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
