RUSTON – LA Tech registered its highest ever multi-year average (972.8) and highest ever single-year average (975.9) as the most recent Academic Progress Rates (APR) were released by the NCAA Tuesday.
Â
Seven programs recorded a perfect 1,000 single-year APR score – the most ever during the 16 years of the academic measurement – while all 16 of Louisiana Tech's Division I sanctioned programs remained penalty-free.
Men's basketball, men's cross country, women's basketball, softball, women's cross country, bowling, and tennis all recorded a perfect single-year rate while men's basketball and football saw a historic high in their multi-year rates.
APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each quarter back tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a picture of the academic culture in each sport. Each sport earns a single-year rate and then a multi-year rate which is a four-year average of the single-year rates.

"I think these scores are a perfect reminder during this time what our overall mission within our athletic department is," said Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland. "It's to graduate our student-athletes while providing them with a great overall college experience. I could not be more proud of our student-athletes as well as our coaching staffs and our support staffs.  We continue to strive for building champions in the classroom, on the playing fields and in life." Â
The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
A total of six programs (football, men's basketball, bowling, women's cross country, soccer, and tennis) recorded their highest ever multi-year APR scores while 10 programs saw an overall increase in their multi-year rate from the previous year.
Twenty-seven student-athletes are scheduled to graduate this spring. Just recently 199 of the LA Tech student-athletes earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while an additional 44 were named C-USA Academic Medalists.
