Five earn first team honors
RUSTON – Phil Steele's 2020 College Football Preview magazine announced its Preseason All-Conference USA teams and Louisiana Tech totaled eight selections on the preseason list.
LA Tech had five Bulldogs earn first team honors, the most of any team in the league. The list includes three on offense with running back Justin Henderson, wide receiver Adrian Hardy and center Kody Russey.
Henderson had a breakout season on the ground last year as the Second Team All-Conference USA selection led the squad with 188 carries for 1,062 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Russey helped pave the way for the 1,000-yard rusher while also protecting the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year in quarterback J'Mar Smith. And Hardy has totaled 135 career receptions for 1,930 receiving yards at outside receiver.
Linebacker Trey Baldwin was named first team defense and Reeves Blankenship received first team as a long snapper. Baldwin recorded 40 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and one interception in 2019 and Blankenship returns for more snapping duties after earning Second Team All-Conference USA honors last season.
There were two Bulldogs represented on the second team with offensive tackle Willie Allen and defensive end Milton Williams earning selections. Defensive end/linebacker Willie Baker received third team honors.
Allen started in all 13 games at left tackle in 2019, joining Russey on the o-line in helping produce the second-best scoring offense in the league. On the defensive line last season, Williams racked up 59 tackles and a team-high 5.5 sacks while Baker registered 51 tackles with a team-high 10.0 tackles for loss.
