CHOUDRANT – Louisiana Tech golf will begin the 2020-21 season by hosting 11 other golf programs to one of the premier golf courses in the south in the 2020 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate running from Sunday, Sept. 13, to Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Squire Creek Country Club and Golf Course. The tournament will mark the first athletic event of the 2020-21 season for Louisiana Tech.

"I'm pumped to have this team finally getting started back after 185 days since competing," head coach
Matt Terry said. "I've liked what I've seen out of this team so far in practice, and I can't wait to see who they become. They are super excited to get started."

This year's field will feature 12 programs, including Louisiana Tech, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, Texas State, UAB, ULM and Western Kentucky.

The three-day event will begin on Sunday, Sept. 13, with tee times starting at 8 a.m. (CT). In an effort to encourage social distancing, golfers will move through the tournament with their own programs.

The Bulldogs will utilize six golfers with two teams of three this weekend in senior
Mac Murphy, sophomore
Hunter Battles, sophomore
Lake Juban, senior
Sam Murphy, junior
James Swash and freshman
Will Patrick.

"I'm ready to go this weekend and so are the boys on the team," Swash said. "We all know we have an opportunity to win this tournament. We know what we can do as a team, and now it's just time to prove it."

In 2019, Louisiana Tech took a third place team finish after finishing the three-day competition at six strokes under par. Three Bulldogs finished in the top-20 for the tournament, led by M. Murphy with a combined score of 211 (-5) for the tournament to tie for second. Swash (T-8th, -3) and S. Murphy (T-18th, +1) also finished in the top-20 at the 2019 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
"I'm excited to start up the season again," M. Murphy said. "We have a really solid group of guys, and I can't wait to look forward to what me and the team can do."

The event is free for fans to attend throughout the three-day tournament, and those in attendance must wear a mask during the event. Fans can also follow up-to-date scoring through live results at Golfstat.com.
