Louisiana Tech Records Its Lowest Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Team Round in Final Round of Tournament

CHOUDRANT – Louisiana Tech saved its best golf for last in the final round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Tuesday after posting the second lowest team round of the 2020 tournament with a combined 277. The 277 for LA Tech marked the lowest team round for the Bulldogs in the history of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and is tied for the second lowest team round in program history.

"I'm really proud of how the guys played today," head coach Matt Terry said. "That's something you can build on. I can't wait to get back to work and prepare for our next event in three weeks."

LA Tech had a combined 25 birdies in the final round, including 14 on the front nine. Senior Mac Murphy and sophomore Lake Juban led the Bulldogs with six birdies each. Sophomore Hunter Battles recorded the lone eagle for the Bulldogs on the final hole of the day at No. 9.

"Today showed a lot about our guys," Juban said. "Lots of teams would have folded, but we kept our heads up and fought through it. We didn't make a whole lot of mistakes like we have the past couple days. My group fed off of each other well and played well. We're extremely proud to have the lowest team score in tournament history. That goes to show what this group is capable of, and we look forward to our next event to go show what we can do."

LA Tech opened the day on hole 10 and worked the back nine before making the turn. Juban led the way for the Bulldogs on Tuesday with a combined -5 (67) after posting three straight birdies from holes 17 through one.

"For me, it was a good day," Juban said. "I limited the number of mistakes I made and got aggressive when I needed to be. The putter really worked for me today and it showed up on the scorecard."

M. Murphy opened and closed the day with a pair of birdies on holes 10 and 11 followed by holes eight and nine, finishing the round with a combined -4 (68). Senior Sam Murphy recorded five straight birdies from holes 17 through three, ending the round with a combined -2 (70). Junior James Swash finished the final round with an even par of 72.

Four Bulldogs finished in the top-20 of the first fall tournament, led by Swash with a combined -1 (215) to tie for 11th. Juban, M. Murphy and S. Murphy finished at an even par of 216 in a three-way tie for 14th.

No. 44 UAB won the tournament with a combined -21 (843). South Alabama -7 (857) and Texas State -5 (859) finished second and third, respectively. Louisiana Tech jumped two spots in the final round to finish the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate fourth with a combined -4 (860). ULM rounded out the top five with a combined -2 (862).
