RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech interim head coach
Bianca Duran announced Tuesday that she has retained
Brooke Morris as an assistant coach on the Lady Techster Softball staff.
Â
"I'm excited to keep
Brooke Morris on board as part of the staff," said Duran. "She exceeded expectations the last two years as our graduate manager and volunteer assistant. She brings a high-level player and coach perspective in the infield and will have the opportunity to work solely with our infield. Her passion and drive to the betterment of the team as young women and athletes is one that fits perfectly with our program."
Â
Morris spent the past two seasons on the LA Tech staff, first serving as a graduate manager in 2019 under then head coach
Mark Montgomery and a volunteer assistant coach in 2020 under then head coach Maria Winn.
Â
"I am extremely excited to be back at Louisiana Tech in a new role," said Morris. "I want to thank Coach Duran for the opportunity to continue my career at this University. In the past two years Ruston has been a loving and supportive community, and I am blessed I can continue to be a part of it."
Â
Following a highly-decorated career at Nicholls State, Morris spent her first season in Ruston with a program that won 45 games, second most in program history, and captured both the Conference USA regular season and tournament titles. Tech earned an appearance in the NCAA Regional in Baton Rouge. She was a part of the Tech staff that was honored by the NFCA as the Mideast Region Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
As a player at Nicholls State (2014-17) Morris started 212 games, playing second base and shortstop for the Colonels. The two-time all-conference honoree (2015, 2017) ranks No. 5 in program history in career hits (192) and career runs scored (115).
The Denham Springs, La., native prepped at Live Oak High School where she earned all-state, all-metro, all-parish and all-district honors during her career. She also lettered in basketball, earning the rookie of the year award.
She earned bachelor's degrees in human performance education and interdisciplinary studies from Nicholls State in 2017 and her master's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports administration at Louisiana Tech in 2020.
Â
Duran still has one more assistant coach position to fill as well as the volunteer assistant position.
