RUSTON – Louisiana Tech football wrapped up fall camp with a team scrimmage on Saturday.
Â
It was a fall camp unlike any before due to COVID-19 and Hurricane Laura, but head coach
Skip Holtz is proud of how the team worked hard on staying focused and getting better each day.
Â
The battle for starting quarterback is still going strong. Due to limited numbers, there was no live tackling in Saturday's scrimmage which allowed the three quarterbacks in the race – redshirt sophomore
Aaron Allen, graduate student
Luke Anthony and redshirt senior
Westin Elliott –  to each get in some valuable reps.
Â
"We really have three quarterbacks that are capable of running this football team," Holtz said. "Westin has done a great job, Aaron's had a really strong camp and Luke has done some great things and has had a really good camp."
Â
The Bulldog defense returned only two starters from the 2019 squad in redshirt junior defensive lineman
Milton Williams and redshirt senior defensive lineman
Willie Baker, while losing seven players in the secondary.
Graduate student defensive back
Khalil Ladler, who spent the previous four seasons at Virginia Tech before joining the Bulldogs for the 2020 campaign, appreciated how the defense approached practice each day.
Â
"Even though sometimes it might not go our way, they still come in and try to do better," Ladler said. "We've got some young guys and lost a lot of starters from last year, but these guys are coming to work each day, getting better and trying to be the best we can be."
Â
On the offensive side, there are many familiar faces on the 2020 roster, including five wide receivers who recorded over 300 reception yards in 2019 in redshirt junior
Griffin Hebert (537 yards), redshirt senior
Adrian Hardy (534 yards), redshirt senior
Cee Jay Powell (488 yards), redshirt senior
Isaiah Graham (398 yards) and redshirt sophomore
Smoke Harris (348 yards).
Â
Hardy said he will come into each game locked in.
Â
"It's really exciting to know that the game's coming up next week," Hardy said. "It's just a good feeling."
Â
The season kicks off Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. (CT), as the Bulldogs take on Baylor at McLane Stadium. Saturday's game will air on FOX with Gus Johnson as the play-by-play announcer, Joel Klatt as the analyst and Jenny Taft as the sideline reporter with Chuck McDonald producing.
Â
Season tickets are on sale through the Tech Ticket Office by calling (318) 257-3631. The University has announced a ticket assurance plan for football season ticket holders in preparation for the 2020 season at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Â
In the event that any of the home football games are canceled as a result of the public health threat of COVID-19, season ticket holders will have the following options:
- Credit toward the 2021 home season (features six games, including a non-conference contest against SMU)
- Apply season ticket purchase to the Louisiana Tech Athletic Club (LTAC) as a donation for this year (100 percent tax deduction)
- Full refund on games that are impactedÂ
At this time, LA Tech officials have not made a decision on any limited seating (i.e 50% capacity in Joe Aillet Stadium) but will look to make those determinations in the coming weeks as more information becomes available.   Â
