RUSTON – Louisiana Tech held a one-goal advantage midway through the match, but North Texas netted two goals in the second half to take the match by a final score of 2-1 on Friday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.
Â
For the fifth straight match, LA Tech (5-8-3, 1-4-2 C-USA) was able to jump out in front on its opponent. The moment came in the 38th minute when
Tomoyo Kuroyanagi was fouled just outside the 18.Â
Â
The sophomore took the ensuing free kick and drilled it on target. The Mean Green goalkeeper came up with the save, but Marcella Gallo was there to head in the deflection from close range.
Â
It was almost an identical play that occurred 10 minutes into the match where
Anna Loftus headed in a deflection, but this one was whistled offside.Â
Â
Even so, the score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Lady Techsters at halftime. However, North Texas (8-4-3, 3-3-1 C-USA) quickly equalized less than three minutes into the second half as Allie Byrd scored off a leaping header from a corner kick.
Â
The Mean Green took the lead in the 61st minute, taking advantage of a no-call on a potential foul. They ended up sending a long ball into their attacking third where it was headed forward by Devyn Flannery and then scored by Madison Drenowatz.Â
