Lady Techsters Sweep Grambling State

Lady Techsters improve to 32-1 all-time against Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. -- Sophomore middle blocker's Carly Doros and Morgan Smith combine for 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage in an all-around 3-0 sweep of Grambling State Tuesday night inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

LA Tech improves to 8-16 on the year with the win, while Grambling State falls to 7-12 overall with the loss. Scores of the match in favor of the Lady Techsters were 25-15, 25-21, 25-22.

After holding an early 10-8 lead in the opening frame, LA Tech reeled off five straight points behind a kill and a block from Doros to push the Lady Techsters advantage out to 15-8. Following a kill by Grambling, Smith and senior Jordyn Carswell powered a 7-2 run, helping the Lady Techsters jump out to a 22-11 lead. The Lady Tiger would cut the deficit to 22-15, but another kill by Smith helped the Lady Techsters to a 25-15 set win.

Grambling State responded in the early parts of the second set, surging out to a 7-3 lead. The Lady Tigers held a 10-6 lead, before Tech flipped the momentum with an 8-0 burst, that featured kills by freshman Jaena Bell and sophomore Samantha Hicks and a block by Doros and Bell, giving Tech a 14-10 advantage. The two teams battled the rest of the way until back-to-back kills by Carswell pushed Tech's lead to 19-15. Doros powered home a kill through the block late in the second stanza before a Carswell kill gave the Lady Techsters a 25-21 set two victory.

Set three started similar to set two with Grambling State jumping out to an early 7-4 lead. The Lady Techsters were able to battle back taking a 11-10 lead on an attack error by Grambling. The Lady Tigers responded with a 4-0 run to force a Tech timeout at 14-11. LA Tech and Grambling State went back-and-forth until sophomore Mackenzie Murray sparked a 4-0 run that gave the Lady Techsters a 21-19 advantage. Bell and Doros finished things off with a double-block as Tech claimed the third set 25-22.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Amber McCray
"I'm proud of our team for stepping up in another new lineup to get a road win against a Grambling State team who has been playing very well at home in front of great crowds all year. The balance we saw in our offense tonight with all six hitters tallying between five and eight kills is what we have been preaching all year that we need to make our whole offense more effective. Hats off to our passers and defense for giving us those options, our setters for managing the distribution, and our attackers for finishing plays. Special shout out to our middles, Carly and Morgan, who both led us in kills with high hitting clips and also came up with numerous timely blocks in critical moments to help either extend one of our runs or end one of theirs. This was the start we were looking for heading into a big weekend as we return to conference play at Southern Miss."
