LA Tech Drops Makeup Match to SLU

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech jumped out to an early lead in the first minute, but Southeastern came back with two second-half goals to take the 2-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.

Sitting out a handful of starters due to rest/injury, LA Tech (5-7-1) got on the scoreboard in a heartbeat as Autumn Woodard dropped the ball off to Carmen Suarez who sent a perfect through ball to Maci Geltmeier.

The sophomore checked off her defender, took control of possession and finished strong inside the far post just 53 seconds into the match.

The LA Tech defense, including starting goalkeeper Christina Hjelvik, stood tall the remainder of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

SLU (5-5-1) would equalize though in the 54th minute when Darby Gillette crossed it into the six where Ellie Williams provided the one-touch finish to knot things up at 1-1.

The score was broken by the Lady Lions in the 60th minute when Haylii Roe attempted a crossing pass from the right blank and the mishit ball curved off the far post and into the net.

LA Tech had six shot attempts the rest of the way to equalize back, but the only two that were on target were both saved.

QUOTABLES
Interim head coach Steve Voltz

"We had a couple of injuries so we sat out some, and we also wanted to give some other players who have not had as many opportunities to play.  We came out really strong, scoring a goal quickly.  In the first half, we were the stronger team and in the second half, they were the stronger team.  Now we have to get ready for Southern Miss.  It is a big one."

NOTABLES
