RUSTON – Louisiana Tech had five players score in double figures, led by guard
Keaston Willis who tallied 19 points in a 91-61 victory over Jarvis Christian on Monday night inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
After a rare off-shooting night against Jackson State, Willis rebounded nicely to go 6-of-10 from the field, including five made three-pointers.
The second one that went through the net from the left corner came with 5:20 to go in the first half and sparked a 12-0 run by LA Tech (2-1), extending its lead to 41-26 at the break after Jarvis Christian (1-3) had hung around for the first 15 minutes.
The home Bulldogs came out the locker room and Willis drained his fifth and final three of the night to make it an 18-point advantage. The road Bulldogs got to within 14 after McShane Wyatt hit back-to-back three-pointers of his own, but that was as close as they would get.
After Willis made the first five for LA Tech from beyond the arc, the rest of the team got involved from deep as
Terran Williams,
David Green and
LaDamien Bradford combined to connect for five threes in the final five minutes of the game.
Williams was responsible for three of those, scoring a career-high 11 points. Green also tallied a career-high 12 points to go along with seven rebounds.
The other double-digit scorers were
Amorie Archibald who tallied 14 on 5-of-7 shooting and
Kenneth Lofton, Jr. who notched his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
LA Tech ended up making a season-high 11 three-pointers while also dominating the paint, outrebounding Jarvis Christian, 56-31, and outscoring them by +16 in the paint.
QUOTABLES
Head coach
Eric Konkol
"I wanted to see continuous effort. I did not like the way we flinched at times against a good Jackson State team the other night. I thought tonight, we had more energy. I thought the ball moved better. It all resulted in better shots. It was a total team effort. We had a lot of different guys contribute. We still have a lot of things we need to get better at to get to where we want to be. This group is motivated to do it. We need to keep getting these game reps."
