LA Tech Edged Out by ULM, 4-3

MONROE, La. – Louisiana Tech had its four-match winning streak come to a heartbreaking end on Wednesday, falling 4-3 to ULM at Heard Stadium.
 
LA Tech (4-3) got off to a strong start, claiming the doubles point and even having a 2-1 advantage through the first two finished singles matches.  However, ULM (3-1) came roaring back with three straight victories to get to four points.
 
The Lady Techsters and Warhawks traded wins in the first two doubles matches.  ULM picked up a 6-3 win on court two while Leonie Schuknecht and Ilana Tetruashvili grabbed a 6-3 win of their own on court one, making court three the decider.
 
LA Tech's Alexia Romero and Lara Unkovich were up 5-4 on ULM's Jimena Paula Garbino and Daniela Hernandez.  The Warhawks won back-to-back games to go up 6-5, but the Techster tandem forced a tiebreaker and won it, 7-6 (5). 
 
ULM struck first in singles, taking a straight-sets victory at the No. 2 position, but Tetruashvili recorded another win, overpowering Madalina Grigoriu by a final score of 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 position to give LA Tech a 2-1 advantage.
 
The momentum had started to swing in favor of the Warhawks though.  The home team produced wins on courts four and five, and then Hala Badwy came back from a set down to defeat Schuknecht, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 to clinch it.  
 
Court six was also in a third set that was ultimately closed out Claudia Oravcova besting Hernandez, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 for the Lady Techsters third point of the day.
 
Next up for LA Tech is a road match at Arkansas State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.
