LA Tech Soccer Falls to Rice

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team (8-5, 1-3 C-USA) lost, 2-0, to Rice (6-2, 2-1 C-USA) at the Ruston Sports Complex on Friday night.

"So many games are decided by fine margins," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We were inconsistent with the ball and we gave it away too often, but we still managed to create enough chances. We fought to the end and our goal is to take that fight into the last two games and hope the luck in those fine margins in the game go our way. At the end of the day, Rice was just better than us."

LA Tech had six shot attempts during the match, with senior midfielder Gabrielle Parent registering Tech's only shot on goal early in the sixth minute.

Rice got on the board early as junior midfielder Delaney Schultz scored a goal off the assist from freshman midfielder Mikala Furuto in the eighth minute. Both teams had a number of shots before the Owls scored their final goal of the day in the 50th minute when junior forward Caleigh Boeckx scored off the assist from senior forward Haley Kostyshyn.

The Lady Techsters had a few opportunities to score late after earning two of their four corner kicks within 30 seconds of each other in the 79th minute. Freshman defender Tomoyo Kuroyanagi was able to get her head on the ball on the second corner, but the ball would go just beyond the left post.

Kuroyanagi's shot would be the last for the Lady Techsters. The teams traded possession until a final Rice shot attempt in the 84th minute. Tech continued to fight for another attempt, but was unable to get a shot off as Rice would win it, 2-0.

Five Lady Techsters registered a shot during the contest, led by Parent with two, and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Boston recorded three saves.

Tech will wrap up its two-game homestand on Sunday as the Lady Techsters host ULM at 1 p.m. at the Ruston Sports Complex. LA Tech will also honor its seniors at the game for Senior Day.
