TULSA, Okla. – Two days after being on the wrong end of a shutout, the Louisiana Tech tennis team bounced back in a big way by shutting out Oral Roberts, 4-0, on Sunday at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
Â
LA Tech (7-9) narrowly lost to ORU (3-9) last season. That was not the case here as the Lady Techsters overpowered the Golden Eagles, winning the doubles point with two convincing set victories and three straight-set wins in singles.
Â
"I am so happy with the overall team performance today," said head coach
Amanda Stone. "We needed a win like this. We have been so close all season to really breaking through and today I felt like we had the right energy and mindset to do just that.Â
Â
"We really fired on all cylinders. It was not easy, but we really stuck with it on all courts and it paid off."
Â
The duo of
Ilana Tetruashvili and
Leonie Schuknecht made quick work of Zere Iskakova and Aliksandra Lebedeva, winning all six games for the 6-0 win on court one for their team-leading eighth victory together (have won three straight).
Â
Alexia Romero and
Claudia Oravcova were dominant as well on court three, defeating Flavia Gutierrez and Gorana Kadijevic by a score of 6-2 to give LA Tech the early 1-0 advantage.
Â
Tetruashvili only lost four games in her singles match at No. 3, downing Rai Sengupta 6-1, 6-3 to make it a 2-0 lead for the Lady Techsters. Romero came through for the third point with her 10th singles victory of the spring, a 6-2, 6-4 result versus Kadijevic.
Â
The clincher then came from the No. 2 position where
Anastasiia Salenko picked a big tiebreaker win in the first set that was followed by a flawless 6-0 second set against Lebedeva.  Â
Â
The remaining three matches went unfinished.Â
Â
LA Tech returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 in a home matchup versus Tyler Junior College. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
