LA Tech Shuts Out Oral Roberts

Lady Techsters improve to 7-9 on the season

TULSA, Okla. – Two days after being on the wrong end of a shutout, the Louisiana Tech tennis team bounced back in a big way by shutting out Oral Roberts, 4-0, on Sunday at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.

LA Tech (7-9) narrowly lost to ORU (3-9) last season.  That was not the case here as the Lady Techsters overpowered the Golden Eagles, winning the doubles point with two convincing set victories and three straight-set wins in singles.

"I am so happy with the overall team performance today," said head coach Amanda Stone.  "We needed a win like this.  We have been so close all season to really breaking through and today I felt like we had the right energy and mindset to do just that.

"We really fired on all cylinders.  It was not easy, but we really stuck with it on all courts and it paid off."

The duo of Ilana Tetruashvili and Leonie Schuknecht made quick work of Zere Iskakova and Aliksandra Lebedeva, winning all six games for the 6-0 win on court one for their team-leading eighth victory together (have won three straight).

Alexia Romero and Claudia Oravcova were dominant as well on court three, defeating Flavia Gutierrez and Gorana Kadijevic by a score of 6-2 to give LA Tech the early 1-0 advantage.

Tetruashvili only lost four games in her singles match at No. 3, downing Rai Sengupta 6-1, 6-3 to make it a 2-0 lead for the Lady Techsters.  Romero came through for the third point with her 10th singles victory of the spring, a 6-2, 6-4 result versus Kadijevic.

The clincher then came from the No. 2 position where Anastasiia Salenko picked a big tiebreaker win in the first set that was followed by a flawless 6-0 second set against Lebedeva.

The remaining three matches went unfinished.

LA Tech returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 in a home matchup versus Tyler Junior College.  First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
