TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Louisiana Tech men's golf got off to a solid start at the 2021 C-USA Men's Golf Championship in Texarkana, Ark., as the Bulldogs ranked fourth with a combined +1 (289) following the first round of stroke play.

"We had a good start today," head coach
Matt Terry said. "There is not too much to clean up. We just need to continue to stay with our game plan and stay patient."

Sam Murphy led the way for the Bulldogs with a three-under 69. He carded a team-best six birdies, including three straight birdies on holes 15 through 17.

Lake Juban each finished the round with an even-par 72. Juban had a strong start after finishing the front nine either at or under par, while M. Murphy finished each of his first five holes at par. Both Bulldogs registered four birdies during the round.

Hunter Battles +7 (79, t-56th) rounded out Tech's day one scoring.

No. 44 UTSA leads the way following round one with a five-under 283. No. 33 Charlotte with a -2 (286), North Texas with an even-par 72 and Louisiana Tech with a +1 (289) round out the top four.

Tuesday and Wednesday will consist of the final two rounds of stroke play. Following stroke play, the top four teams will be seeded and will conclude the championship on Thursday with a match play playoff. The winning team will then gain the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
