RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech Athletics spoke with defensive lineman
Milton Williams ahead of the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
Question: What are your plans for the NFL Draft?
Milton Williams: "I am having most of my immediate family over to the house. We are just going to eat, listen to some music, watch the draft and have a good time. We are just going to watch and see which team calls my name. We will probably have about 20 or 25 people here for the draft."
Question: How do you think your time at Louisiana Tech prepared you for the NFL?
Milton Williams: "I think it prepared me a lot. I feel like going to Louisiana Tech was the best thing for me. I feel like many of the guys at the Power 5 schools they feel entitled. They have been given everything and they did not really have to earn it. When you go to a school like Louisiana Tech, you have to earn everything, every opportunity so when you get the chance you can maximize it. When I got to Tech, I did not play the first two years because they did not feel like I was ready. I got down for a little while but I just continued to put in extra work and finally got my opportunity. I maximized it."
Question: What is your best memory as a Bulldog?
Milton Williams: "This may shock some people. Those first two years I was not getting much playing time. At the Hawaii Bowl, I was the back-up tight end on the backside of one of our plays. They called a run play and I went in and blocked my dude on the backside, and Kam McKnight scored on a (39-yard) TD run. It was one of my first meaningful snaps. I think that was one of my most memorable moments. Or my first sack. It was against James Morgan when we played FIU. Those are two good ones."Â
Question: What player in the NFL do you think your skillset/game is similar to?
Milton Williams: "One player I was competing with the whole time, just looking at this numbers and watching some of his film is Aaron Donald. When he came out of college, they were trying to say he was undersized and that he may be a fourth or fifth round pick. But he ended up going in the first round to the Rams. He has won NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times. Now I am coming out and they are trying to say I am undersized at 6-foot-3, 285. I am not sure where they are getting that I am undersized. I beat him in all my Pro Day numbers except he beat me by one rep in the bench press. I hope that during my time in the NFL I could be as good as he is."
Question: What do you think your strength or best assets will be on the next level?Â
Milton Williams: "I think it will be my speed. My speed being able to play inside and outside. Being able to move all across the defensive line. And especially on obvious pass downs, lining up over the guard and being able to utilize my speed. I think I will be able to use that to my advantage."
