@LATechVB Signs Transfers Monnie Ellis and Andrea Spasojevic

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech's volleyball team added two new student-athletes to its 2021 roster with the signings of Monnie Ellis and Andrea Spasojevic.

Ellis, a transfer middle blocker from Arkansas Pine-Bluff, spent the first two years of her college career at Temple College in Temple, Texas. As a freshman in 2018-19, Ellis tallied 72 total blocks across 86 sets to average 0.84 blocks per set. The former Leopard also tallied 120 kills and averaged 1.40 kills per set in her first season of collegiate volleyball.

As a sophomore in 2019-20, Ellis had a breakout season for the Leopards, posting over 200 kills and 100 total blocks in just 121 sets across 33 matches. Ellis logged 128 total blocks, including 29 solo efforts, to finish the season averaging 1.06 blocks per set.

Ellis also contributed 233 kills and 1.93 kills per set during her sophomore season. She raised her hitting percentage 74 points from .190 as a freshman to .264 as a sophomore. She finished her Temple College career with 200 total blocks, 353 kills and 52 digs.

"Imana [Monnie] is a student-athlete capable of playing above the net at a level we have not previously seen in our gym," head coach Amber McCray said. "After opting out this past season, she is hungry to get back on the court and should provide an instant boost for us both offensively and defensively."

Spasojevic, a transfer outside hitter from Odessa College, tallied 296 kills and 2.93 kills per set as a sophomore. The Kruševac, Serbia native also logged 247 digs and 2.45 digs per set to help lead Odessa to a 26-4 record and the NJCAA Southwest District A Championship.

Spasojevic recorded 16 matches with 10 or more kills and 11 matches with 10 digs or more. She also contributed seven double-doubles in 30 starts for the Wranglers.

"We are so excited to add another pair of talented transfers to our 2021 class," McCray said. "Andrea played a major role in her team's success this season, providing a consistent and effective pass-to-attack option all year en route to their sixth-place finish in the NJCAA national tournament.

"We look for her to bring valuable experience against solid competition to a young group of returning pin hitters this year."
