RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech's volleyball team added another setter to its 2021 roster with the signing of
Laura De Pra, a transfer from St. John's University.
De Pra, who played in seven of St. John's 14 matches this past season, spent her first two seasons of collegiate volleyball at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas. The new LA Tech setter amassed 2,778 assists in just two seasons, finishing her time at Seward County with the second-most assists in program history.
De Pra recorded 1,403 assists, 194 digs, 50 kills, 48 blocks and 29 service aces across Seward County's 34 matches in 2019. Her 12.53 assists per set in 2019 helped her earn NJCAA and AVCA All-American honors, leading the Saints to a 32-3 record and the national championship game as a sophomore. De Pra's stellar service also helped Seward County post a perfect conference record across her two seasons with the program.
"We are pleased to officially complete our 2021 roster with the addition of Laura Sertic De Pra," head coach
Amber McCray said. "Laura brings an outstanding junior college career and experience competing against elite competition to our setting position.
"Her size, knowledge of the game and ability to speed up the tempo of our offense will undoubtedly make her a valuable asset to our program."
The Redwood City, California native was born in Santos, Brazil, and is the daughter of two volleyball standouts. Her father, Leonidio De Pra, played for the Brazilian national team for 11 years and competed in the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Her mother, Luciana Fernandes, was a professional beach volleyball player.
"I found the coaching staff very welcoming and Louisiana Tech just feels like home," De Pra said. "I feel like I'm going to improve as a volleyball player and as a person here in Ruston."
