Preview: LA Tech at Southern Miss

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT on Sunday

RUSTON – The series shifts to Hattiesburg on Sunday as Louisiana Tech faces travel partner Southern Miss at 2 p.m. inside Reed Green Coliseum.  This will be the third straight season the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles face off in back-to-back games.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (14-3, 5-0 C-USA)
LA Tech remained unbeaten at home and in conference as they pulled away from Southern Miss in the second half to register an 80-57 victory in Ruston on Thursday.  The Bulldogs ignited for 49 second-half points and built as much as a 34-point lead on the Golden Eagles.
 
After only scoring seven total points on 2-of-15 shooting in the UTEP-UTSA series, Keaston Willis went for a game-high 21 points (8-of-16 from the field) in the win over USM.  It was his third 20-point performance of the season and the fourth time he has made at least four three-pointers in a single game.  He is averaging 11.0 points per game this season.
 
David Green added 17 points in 17 minutes of action in the game and Cobe Williams scored 12, reaching double figures for the eighth time in the last nine games.  His scoring average is up to 10.2 points per game.
 
LA Tech tied its season high with 21 assists.  They currently rank third in C-USA in assists per game (15.6) while also ranking first in the league and 38th in the country in assist/turnover ratio (1/36).
 
ABOUT SOUTHERN MISS (5-10, 1-2 C-USA)
The Golden Eagles will be playing their first conference match at home on Sunday.  They have only played four games in Reed Green Coliseum so far this season, going 2-2.  Their last home game came on Dec. 14 against Jacksonville.
 
They are led by Tyler Stevenson who has started all 14 games he has played this season.  The forward is averaging 12.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.  He recorded a team-high 17 points to go along with six boards in Thursday's meeting.
 
Guard Jaron Pierre, Jr. came off the bench to record 12 points on four made three-pointers.  He is averaging 9.1 points per game this season.
 
THE SERIES
LA Tech and Southern Miss will meet for the 89th time, the most games of any non-Louisiana team.  The Bulldogs have won 14 of the last 16 matchups.  With LA Tech tying up the series at 44-44 on Thursday, they have a chance on Sunday to reclaim the series advantage.  USM has had the edge since 1954. 
 
The Bulldogs will be playing its 22nd game inside Reed Green Coliseum.  They are 7-14 all-time in the arena, having won two straight and five of the last seven.
