TULSA, Okla. – Louisiana Tech bounced back from a loss to host Tulsa to record a shutout victory over Montana State on Sunday, the second and final day of the Hurricane Invite.
Â
LA Tech (2-1) suffered a 7-0 defeat to Tulsa (3-0) who swept all three of its matches over the weekend. The Lady Techsters came in second though in the event, not dropping a single set to defeat MSU (0-3) by a final score of 7-0.Â
Â
The doubles tandem of
Alexia Romero and
Olga Bienzobas put together the lone win over the Golden Hurricane to wrap up Match Two, winning 6-4 on court three.Â
Â
The duo made it a Sunday sweep in the following match versus the Bobcats, taking it 6-1. LA Tech ended up on all three courts in doubles as
Leonie Schuknecht and
Ana Rodrigues prevailed, 6-0, and
Ilana Tetruashvili and
Najah Dawson came out victorious, 6-4.
Â
The team carried that momentum into singles where they dominated on all six courts. Rodrigues picked up her first singles win of the spring with a crushing 6-1, 6-1 win on court three. Schuknecht followed at the No. 1 position with a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of Mirte Van Baelen.
Â
Providing the clinching point was Bienzobas who bested Felicia Jayasaputra, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Tetruashvili, Dawson and Romero went on court soon thereafter and each notched straight-set wins.

Â
"This was a fantastic weekend. Overall, a really great way to start the season and I think if we stay on track and stay focused this team can do some big things. After the Wyoming win, we spoke about how great teams consistently show up ready to play each match and produce good wins. Today, I was very happy to see every player take that to heart and earn a win.Â
Â
"It was good to see such good wins from our doubles lines and I was particularly happy with our three doubles beating Tulsa. Leonie really led well from the top of the lineup. She was dominant in her two wins and she was a few key points away from going undefeated in both singles and doubles."
