Preview: LA Tech at UTSA

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech goes for a weekend conference sweep on Saturday when they face UTSA in San Antonio at 3 p.m. CT inside the Convocation Center.  The Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (12-3, 3-0 C-USA)
LA Tech had a strong defensive showing in El Paso, on Thursday, defeating UTEP by a final score of 64-52.  The 52 points was the fewest allowed by the Bulldogs this season and marked the third time in the last four games in holding their opponent to under 60.
 
Cobe Williams, the reigning C-USA Player of the Week, scored a team-high 17 points versus the Miners.  The point guard is averaging 19.0 points through three conference games (averaged 7.4 points during non-conference).
 
Kenneth Lofton, Jr. registered his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.  The 18 rebounds are the most by a C-USA player in a single game this season and the most by a Bulldog since 2016.  He is currently one of only six players in the country averaging at least 17 points and 10 rebounds per game.
 
The 12-3 record is the best start to the season for LA Tech since 2015-16 and the 3-0 conference mark is the best since the 2014-15 season.
 
ABOUT UTSA (7-8, 0-2 C-USA)
UTSA has lost both its conference games so far this season, falling 87-59 at UAB in the C-USA opener and dropping a narrow 74-73 loss at home to Southern Miss this past Thursday. They went 7-6 in non-conference and are 6-4 at home this season.
 
The Roadrunners are having to replace their top two scorers in program history in Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace who combined to score 4,631 career points over the last four seasons.
 
UTSA averages 40.8 rebounds per game, which ranks first in C-USA. They also average 15 offensive rebounds per game, the third most in the country. The Roadrunners get to the free throw line a lot as well, averaging 18.8 attempts per contest.

The Roadrunners have a three-headed mon­ster offensively in Dhieu Deing, Jordan Ivy-Cur­ry and Jacob Germany. Each are averaging be­tween 14-15 points per game, having scored 57 percent of the team's points this season.
 
THE SERIES
LA Tech leads the all-time series over UTSA, 14-6. The Bulldogs won both meetings in Ruston last season by scores of 77-66 and 82-66. Since becoming C-USA opponents, the 'Dogs hold a 9-4 advantage.
 
The Bulldogs have lost the last two meetings in San Antonio. Their last victory in the UTSA Convocation Center came in 2017.
