RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech women's soccer team continued their winning ways with a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten UAB at The Mack Sunday afternoon to wrap up their home regular season schedule.
LA Tech (7-7-3, 5-2-2 C-USA) got another multi-goal performance, their third of the season and second in as many matches, this time from
Lauren Egbuloniu.
The sophomore forward put Tech on the board in the 39' off assists from
Flavie Dube and
Kalli Matlock. Tech would hold the 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room.
UAB (9-3-4, 6-1-2 C-USA) evened things off Carlyn Presley's goal in the 67', but Egbuloniu's second of the match came 12 minutes later and proved to be the game-winner.
Tech snapped UAB's 10-match unbeaten streak and handed the Blazers their first loss of the 2022 conference slate. UAB had only given up two goals in C-USA play before today.
Tech has scored first in 10 of their 17 matches this season and improved to 7-3 when striking first.
The LA Tech offense has scored in six straight matches, scoring 12 goals in that span. Tech has scored multiple goals in each of the matches over their four-game win streak. The four-regular season C-USA wins matches their best mark since the 2016 season.
Tech was out shot 9-8 in the match but held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Tech also earned five corners to UAB's one.
QUOTABLES
Head Coach
Steve Voltz…
"Trust the process, we've been saying it all year, and that trust has been paying off in a big way this last month. We have gone from a very uncertain future to now not only being in the tournament but playing for a top seed.
UAB is an incredibly talented side, their record speaks for itself, and we knew we would have to be great today. It is always great to play at home in front of our fans, and they made a big impact on our women today.
We know that we are not going to sneak up on anyone now, the expectations are changing, and it will be up to our staff to manage those expectations. We will enjoy this one for 24 hours, we deserve that, especially with what we have faced, but then it will be time to continue moving forward."
