Lady Techsters Fall to North Texas

DENTON, Texas -- The Louisiana Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 14-25) on Sunday afternoon against North Texas at the North Texas Volleyball Center.

LA Tech (9-11, 2-3 C-USA) took a hard-fought loss to UNT (9-11, 3-2 C-USA) as the Mean Green started the first set out with a 5-0 scoring run to take an early lead, but that was stopped when giving up an attack error to give the Lady Techsters a chance to put themselves back into the set. Down 10-5, two kills by Andrea Spasojevic coupled with two Mean Green errors shorten the home team's lead to one. The two squads went back and forth throughout the remainder of the set and it was North Texas that produced a kill for set point to close it out at 25-23.

Like the first set, the second went back and forth until the very end. Spasojevic combineed for seven kills in the first two sets, along with Sydney Jackwin with six. Late in the set, the Lady Techsters trailed by four until two errors from North Texas and a kill from Morgan Smith to close in on the Mean Green's lead. However, LA Tech was unable to come out on top falling by the exact same set score at 25-23.

North Texas took an early jump in the final set with a 7-0 scoring run that the Lady Techsters could not catch up to. Spasojevic added three more kills and Jackwin added three giving them a combined total of fifteen.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Amber McCray

"I'm proud of the fight our team displayed in spurts today facing adversity. UNT is a good team playing with a ton of momentum and confidence right now, and we were right there battling with them for most of the match until one big scoring run early in the third set let them get away. They have several key hitters we needed to contain and we just did not do that today nor did we kill enough balls to counter their attack with our own. UNT is arguably the toughest place to play in our league, but we had a great LA Tech crowd too that made it a fun environment to compete in. After a long two weeks on the road, we are thankful for a week to regroup and go prepare for a rematch with UTEP back on our home floor."

NOTABLES
