Lady Techsters Fall to No. 21 Rice

HOUSTON- The Louisiana Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15) in their last road game of the regular season against No. 21 Rice on Sunday afternoon.

Rice began the first set with an early lead from a 5-0 scoring run. LA Tech began to shorten the Owls' lead with a 3-0 scoring run from two Rice errors and a kill from Jaena Bell. Rice returned with a kill, service ace and a Lady Techsters error to grow their lead to six points. LA Tech fought hard to try to catch the Owls throughout the set, but came up short. Chard'e Vanzandt collected three kills along with a dig.

The Lady Techsters found themselves down by 10 mid-way through the second set and tried to make a comeback. The last four points scored by LA Tech were from three kills from Ashley Taylor, Andrea Spasojevic, and Bell, along with an ace from Spasojevic. Vanzandt added two more kills in the set.

Louisiana Tech but put up a fight in the final set, not making it easy for Rice to finalize the match. The two teams went back and forth, but the Lady Techsters took at two-point lead from a Rice error and a kill from Imana Ellis. The Owls took the jump they needed off of a 4-0 scoring run to give them the momentum they needed to finish the match. Spasojevic collected four kills in the third set.

QUOTABLES
"Today was simply not our day. We lost to a very talented, nationally-ranked team who outplayed us in every facet of the game. All we can do is look forward, and thankfully we don't have to end on these past couple of weekends. We have a big week ahead with two matches at home and major goals for this season still in tact. All of our focus will be on that."
